Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Joe Costello

Question:

423 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans to close down Garda stations in the Dublin metropolitan area or to reduce their hours of opening; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23263/02]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that there are currently no plans to either close Garda stations in the Dublin metropolitan region or to reduce their opening hours. I should mention, however, that the optimum use of Garda stations in the Dublin area is being considered as part of a major review of the Garda organisation structures under the strategic management initiative programme of modernisation. That review is not yet completed. On completion, the review will be submitted for consideration by Government.
