Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

482 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if grants for new houses in the Gaeltacht areas and the islands will continue to be paid; and if so the details thereof. [23214/02]

I take it the Deputy is referring to Gaeltacht islands. Grants for new houses under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Acts will continue to be paid in Gaeltacht areas, including Gaeltacht islands. The grant, which is €5,100 in mainland Gaeltacht areas and €15,300 on Gaeltacht islands, is paid to qualified applicants who speak Irish as the normal language of their household.

An information leaflet on the grants available under the Acts will be forwarded to the Deputy.
