Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

124 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science when a person (details supplied) in County Waterford will be registered as a secondary teacher; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24165/02]

The Registration Council is the statutory body, which determines, with the approval of the Minister for Education and Science, the qualification requirements for the purposes of registration as a secondary teacher. Applications for the recognition of qualifications for the purposes of registration are considered by the council at meetings, which take place on a periodic basis.

The person referred to by the Deputy recently submitted an application for recognition of her qualifications. There was, however, a shortfall in the documentation submitted in support of the application and the applicant has been notified accordingly. When the necessary documentation is received, the application will be processed and submitted to the Registration Council for consideration.
