Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

152 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself that patients from County Monaghan in the North-Eastern Health Board area should have to travel to Mullingar to have operations carried out for varicose veins when personnel, theatre beds, nurses and all essential equipment are available in Monaghan General Hospital; if he has further satisfied himself that this is good value for money at a time when there is no money available for subvention into nursing homes or to pay for additional home helps for the elderly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24206/02]

Responsibility for the provision of health services to residents of County Monaghan rests with the North-Eastern Health Board (NEHB). My Department has therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the NEHB to investigate the matter raised and to reply directly to the Deputy.
