Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - HomeBond Scheme.

Dan Boyle

Question:

171 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on whether the voluntary homebond protection scheme should be given a statutory basis and be strengthened to give subsequent owners of such property continued protection. [23913/02]

I understand that the HomeBond ten year warranty to protect purchasers in the event of structural faults developing in a house covered under the scheme is extended to subsequent owners of the house if purchased within the ten year period. The warranty, of course, expires ten years from the date of completion of the house.

The HomeBond scheme is operated by the National House Building Guarantee Scheme Company Limited which is a private company and improvements to the scheme are primarily a matter for the company. I have no proposals to establish the HomeBond scheme on a statutory basis.

Questions Nos. 172 and 173 answered with Question No. 67.
