Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Access to Local Government.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

193 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress being made to develop local government with structures to ensure consultation between local authorities and national parliamentarians and an end to the dual mandate. [24099/02]

Apart from the present participation of many Oireachtas Members in local authority councils, dialogue between representatives of local government and the Oireachtas regularly takes place in Oireachtas committees, regional authorities and other fora. While there does not appear to be a particular need to formalise this process further, I will remain open to ideas in this regard.

I refer also to the reply to Question No. 434 of 12 November.

Question No. 194 answered with Question No. 67.
