Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Costs.

Seán Crowe

Question:

218 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the amount the personal public service number awareness campaign is costing her Department; and if she will provide a breakdown of those costs. [24171/02]

The current campaign on the personal public service number is designed to promote public awareness of the number and its value as the key to accessing public services. The decision to run this campaign was taken as a result of a survey in 2001 which showed that knowledge of the PPS number among the public was very low.

The PPS number replaces the RSI number and its use is part of the general drive to modernise Government services. It will provide a basis for the delivery of online public services and improved service delivery over the phone. It will also allow greater integration of services across agencies.

The cost of the PPS number campaign is approximately €310,000. This amount is made up as follows: television €120,758, radio €44,819, newspapers €132,328. All these figures include VAT. The remaining amount is to cover agency costs.
