Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

219 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason the disability allowance of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is being reduced; and the basis on which the reduction is being made. [24213/02]

Following a review, the means of the person concerned were reassessed at €90.40 in the light of the increase, from £50.90 sterling to £57.75 sterling, in her weekly British incapacity pension. Based on this assessment she is currently entitled to a rate of €31.30 disability allowance per week. She is also entitled to a fuel allowance of €9 per week and a living alone allowance of €7.70 per week.

Under social welfare legislation decisions on claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in making such decisions.
