Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Billy Timmins

Question:

78 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if any member of his Department's staff was charged with or found guilty of wrongdoing with respect to the illegal import of animals which led to the foot and mouth disease; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24126/02]

No member of staff from my Department has either been charged with or convicted of any wrongdoing relating to the illegal import of animals which led to the foot and mouth disease crisis. I am on the public record as expressing my gratitude for the tremendous hard work and dedication of the staff of my Department and others upon whose expertise I relied greatly during the foot and mouth disease crisis and whose efforts undoubtedly prevented the further spread of the disease with all the associated consequences for the national economy and many sectors of society.
