Vol. 558 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

298 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will agree to and arrange the ongoing services of a person (details supplied) to oversee the implementation of his recommendations aimed at resolving the problems at St. Vincent's DEC, Navan Road, in line with the wishes of the parents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25057/02]

My Department welcomes the report prepared by the facilitator appointed by local management as part of the internal process to resolve the difficulties which had arisen at the centre. My Department is working with the Department of Education and Science to put in place the arrangements necessary to undertake the assessment of the children.

While I am aware that the parents have requested that the facilitator continue to be involved in the implementation of the recommendations contained in his report, it is considered that any decision concerning his continued involvement is a matter, in the first instance, for local management as it was at their request that he became involved in this process.
