Vol. 558 No. 5

Written Answers. - Vaccine Compensation Schemes.

Tony Gregory

Question:

310 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the submission from the Irish Vaccine Injury Campaign; if he will put in place a compensation scheme for children damaged by the DPT vaccine; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25137/02]

I have no record of a specific submission from the IVIC in this matter. I met two representatives of the group on 16 April and the matters raised by them are under consideration by my Department at present. My officials are examining details of vaccine compensation schemes in place in other countries. On completion of this examination further investigation will take place into the clinical and administrative aspects of the most relevant models examined.
