Vol. 558 No. 5

Written Answers. - Homeless Persons.

Jack Wall

Question:

332 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of homeless people registered in Kildare; the number of hostels funded by Departments in Kildare; the number of beds available in such hostels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25081/02]

According to the 2002 assessment of housing needs, there were 72 people registered as homeless and in need of, and suitable for, local authority housing in Kildare. There are 56 bed spaces available for homeless people in three hostels in Kildare, which are in receipt of funding from my Department. In addition to hostel accommodation, bed and breakfast accommodation is also used to accommodate homeless people where necessary.
