Question:

196 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for Finance the role Ordnance Survey Ireland has in defining flood plains throughout the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25807/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 180, 184, 187 and 196 together.

The Ordnance Survey of Ireland does not have a specific role in recording flood levels or defining flood plains. A number of organisations including Office of Public Works, EPA, ESB, and local authorities record and hold data on flood levels.

The Deputy will be aware that I recently announced a major review of policy on flood relief. This is commencing immediately and will involve widespread consultation. I expect the review to be complete by next summer. The question of responsibility for recording flood levels and development of flood maps will be considered as part of the review.
