Vol. 559 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

223 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason an extension to a school bus service has not been sanctioned for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25528/02]

The pupil referred to by the Deputy resides closer to a school other than the school attended. Under the terms of the primary school transport scheme she is eligible for free transport to her nearest appropriate school only.

Children who are eligible for free transport to their nearest school but for whom no transport service is available may be allowed to travel as concessionary fare payers on a service to their next or nearest school. My Department has offered concessionary transport to the school of attendance to the parents of the pupil concerned.
