Vol. 559 No. 1

Written Answers. - Strategy on Homelessness.

Bernard Allen

Question:

411 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make a statement on a situation where it is now the end of the second year of the integrated strategy on homelessness published in May 2000 and many projects still do not know the amount of funding they will receive to cover 2002 costs let alone the amount they can hopefully plan to receive for 2003. [25459/02]

Current funding for accommodation and for homeless services provided by local authorities has increased substantially from €12.6 million in 1999 to an expected €43 million this year. All requests for funding by local authorities for projects which provide accommodation and related services for homeless people have been met by my Department. In addition, my Department has provided funding to local authorities for a number of new projects in 2002 and I am hopeful that some further new projects will come on stream next year.
