Written Answers. - Community Centre.

Noel Grealish

Question:

193 Mr. Grealish asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if Halla Seanscoil Sailearna, Indreabhán, County Galway, should be operated as a public hall, designated for the use of all the community of Indreabhán; if it should be run as a co-operative public hall, owned and operated by a co-operative; if it should be operated by a public committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25982/02]

A grant of £60,000 was originally sanctioned by my Department in 1990 to Comharchumann Shailearna Teo. for refurbishment works to be undertaken at Seanscoil Sailearna. Following a review of the case in 1998 this grant was subsequently raised to £140,000. The conditions of the grant stated that the refurbished building was to operate as a heritage centre and to provide offices for the Comharchumann. The building now includes a playschool and an educational centre as well as the facilities outlined above. These facilities are managed by Comharchumann Shailearna, the local co-operative, on behalf of the community.
