Vol. 559 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with two different topics. I propose to deal with these topics separately and I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In regard to the first topic I have received notices from Deputy Paul Gogarty and call on him.

It is actually my name at the bottom.

No. There is another one from the Deputy. We will move on to Deputy Sargent on No. 2.

It is my signature.

A Cheann Comhairle, with respect, my notice was given under Standing Order 21.

This is what I faxed to the Ceann Comhairle's office.

Deputy Sargent on No. 2.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the concerns of those charged with responsibility for defending the people from the possible devastation of a bio-terrorist act in the National Disease Surveillance Centre and the perception that the Government is not as serious about the threat as, for example, the Government of the UK, which has introduced strict measures and allocated greater resources to addressing the effects of bio-terrorism.

Having given the matter full consideration I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Maybe not today.

The third matter under Standing Order 31 was received but did not give the name of the Deputy who wished to propose it and my office was unsuccessful in identifying the Deputy, hence I have to rule it invalid.
