Vol. 559 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Archives.

Seán Ryan

Question:

85 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason his Department has refused to pass on certain documents to the National Archives, as requested; if his Department has an archivist; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25766/02]

My Department has a designated certifying officer in accordance with the National Archives Act, 1986.

My Department has not refused to supply material to the National Archives. It is storing certain material on behalf of the National Archives. Representatives of the archives have been in ongoing contact with the Department about the possibility of taking other material into the National Archives. Within the past few weeks a representative from the National Archives supervised the early stages in the preparation of this material for transfer to National Archives.
