219 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the provision of a mandatory subject on racial and ethnic awareness in the State's teaching training colleges; and his achievements to educate future teachers on the difficulties they will face in an increasingly ethnically diverse State. The existing full-time programmes of pre-service teacher training, primary, in the colleges of education contain elements to assist the student teachers in dealing with the areas of racial and ethnic awareness.
Details of the length of time spent by students of any college of education on a particular curricular area are matters for which the management authorities of the colleges of education are responsible.
