Question:

252 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the cost of the recent survey of salmon licence holders commissioned by his Department. [26396/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 251 and 252 together.

As I advised the Deputy in my reply to his Question No. 140 of 28 November 2002, the Central Fisheries Board has recently commissioned a consultancy firm to undertake a study of the economic and socio-economic value of salmon in Ireland. The survey referred to is part of the consultant's research process. I have forwarded the Deputy's queries to the chief executive officer of the Central Fisheries Board and asked him to reply directly to the Deputy in the matter.
