Vol. 559 No. 5

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Denis Naughten

Question:

312 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport the progress made in ensuring that motorways are equipped with, or retro-fitted, with high strength containment barriers, particularly at central reservations and outside verges at junctions with other roads or at other areas which are identifiable as being high risk areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26576/02]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 365, reference No. 25488/02, 10 December. The position is unchanged.

It is a matter for the National Roads Authority to ensure that motorways and dual carriageways are equipped with appropriate containment barriers having regard to the provisions of its design manual for roads and bridges.
