Seán Crowe

Question:

313 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Transport if funding will be made available for the upgrading of Broombridge railway station. [26626/02]

Proposals for upgrading Broombridge station are a matter for Iarnród Éireann. A sum of €200,000 was invested in 2001 to upgrade the station but it has since been substantially vandalised. Iarnród Éireann has indicated that it is attempting to install replacement lighting and repair the damaged platforms following the vandalism.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

314 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Transport if it is intended that the railway line between Midleton and Cork will be reopened in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26627/02]

Iarnród Éireann commissioned a feasibility study to examine the prospects for the development of commuter rail services from Blarney to Cobh and Midleton via Cork and the opening of a number of stations at appropriate locations. This study will be completed shortly. I will consider the implications for the opening of this line when I receive the findings of this study and the strategic rail review which is also nearing completion.
