Vol. 559 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Tony Gregory

Question:

352 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request a report from the Garda authorities in Dublin 7 in response to the concerns raised in correspondence (details supplied). [26582/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, in the year to date, there have been a total of 118 arrests in and around the areas mentioned in the correspondence in question. These arrests include both prostitutes and clients. In addition, numerous cautions have been administered by the Garda.

I am assured that the area is constantly monitored by foot and mobile patrols. Meetings have taken place between the local gardaí, residents' associations and local representatives in an effort to allay their concerns.

I am further informed that the superintendent at the Bridewell Garda station received a copy of the letter concerned and replied to the writer on 12 December 2002.
