Vol. 559 No. 5

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Grant Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

367 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of persons awaiting the disabled persons grant payment in respect of each local authority as at 1 November 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26269/02]

Given that the disabled persons grant scheme is administered directly by local authorities, my Department does not have the detailed information sought. The most recent information received from local authorities indicates that more than 3,000 grants were paid in the period 1 January to 31 July 2002. At that date, some 4,500 applications were approved while local authorities had a further 6,700 unapproved application on hands.

Information on activity under the scheme is also published quarterly in the Department's bulletin of housing statistics, copies of which are available in the Library.
