368 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of persons on the housing list in respect of each local authority for each year from September 1997 to September 2002, inclusive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26270/02]

The information requested, which is compiled on the basis of the number of households in need of housing at 28 March 2002, is set out in the following table. Comparable information on housing needs in March 1996 and March 1999 was published in my Department's housing statistics bulletins for the September quarters in 1996 and 1999 and copies are available in the Library. These assessments of housing needs are undertaken by local authorities on a triennial basis.

The number of dwellings completed-acquired by local authorities for each of the years 1997 and 1998 is set out in the following table. Details for 1999, 2000 and 2001 are published in my Department's annual housing statistics bulletin, copies of which are available in the Library. Details for 2002 will be published in the annual housing statistics bulletin for 2002.
