Question:

373 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of planning applications which have been dealt with in Ballina Town Council, Castlebar Town Council, Westport Town Council and Mayo County Council for the past two years up to 30 November 2002, including the number of applications lodged, validated, approved and refused. [26386/02]

The number of plan ning applications made to each planning authority is set out in my Department's quarterly planning statistics, based on returns submitted by the planning authorities. Copies of the quarterly statistics are placed in the Oireachtas Library. The third quarter figures are being finalised while data are not yet available for the fourth quarter of this year. Information on the number of valid applications has only been collected since the second quarter of this year, with the coming into effect of the Planning and Development Regulations, 2001. The data sought in the question, in so far as it is available, are set out in the following table:
