Vol. 559 No. 5

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

382 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on the proposed construction of a new bridge at Narrow Water-Cooley, County Louth; and the action he proposes to take as a result of the feasibility study carried out on this project by a company (details supplied). [26737/02]

Louth County Council recently sought approval from my Department to complete a preliminary report and all the necessary site investigation for this project.

It is understood that the Narrow Water (Omeath Warrenpoint road link) project is not listed on Louth County Council's current five year programme, nor does it appear to have been prioritised for funding by the council over the next five to 10 years. It is also understood that no agreement has been made with the roads service in Northern Ireland regarding the 50% contribution required on its behalf.
In the circumstances, my Department is not in a position to provide funding for the next stage of the project.
