Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Willie Penrose

Question:

294 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance when the Government is going to make a decision in relation to decentralisation proposals; if in this context, he will ensure that the comprehensive proposal from Mullingar, to be included as a suitable and convenient location for decentralisation, is considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1940/03]

The Government is committed to moving forward the progressive decentralisation of Government offices and agencies taking into account the national spatial strategy. As I have previously said on many occasions, there is a wide range of important issues that must be taken into consideration and it is not possible for me to state at this time when the Government will be in a position to take a decision on the issue of decentralisation. However, all of the numerous submissions and cases made to my Department, including that received from and on behalf of Mullingar, will be given full consideration in these deliberations.
