Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Education Report.

Joe Costello

Question:

336 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education and Science his plans regarding the report prepared by a person (details supplied) into the Dublin Education Centre on the Navan Road, Dublin 7; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27158/02]

The report to which the Deputy refers provides a valuable basis for resolution of the current difficulties at the Navan Road centre. My Department has been working with the Department of Health and Children on arrangements to give early effect to the recommendations in the report.

Priority attention has been given to the establishment of multidisciplinary teams to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the needs of each of the children involved with a view to the development of individualised support programmes. It is intended that the parents of the children will be fully involved in this process.

The multidisciplinary teams are now in place and the assessment process has commenced. It is intended that support programmes will be put in place to meet the individual needs identified through the assessment process.
