Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dan Neville

Question:

398 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science when refurbishment work and a classroom extension will be made to Kilcolman national school, County Limerick. [1453/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to indi vidual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

In view of the extensive nature of the building programme, my Department does not intend putting further large scale projects into architectural planning during 2003. In the meantime, the school's board of management should use its devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

399 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Education and Science if attention will be given to the plight of St. Killian's national schools, Castleview, Tallaght, Dublin 24, in respect of the building works required at this school; if his attention has been drawn to the concern of pupils, staff, parents and the general community regarding this serious issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1454/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The project at St. Killian's national schools is at an advanced stage of architectural planning. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include it in the new projects to start construction in 2003. The project will be considered again in the context of the 2004 capital programme. At the request of my Department, a technical inspection was undertaken at the school on 25 November 2002 and all air test results for asbestos were found to be clear. The matter will continue to be monitored.
