Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Closures.

Seán Crowe

Question:

421 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the future of St. Patrick's national school, Doaghbeag, Fanad, Letterkenny, County Donegal; if the closure of the school is being considered by his Department or has been considered; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that in the past four years the Fanad Peninsula has lost two schools and two post offices; and his views on whether further cuts in services to the people of the area would have a serious negative impact on the area. [1576/03]

My Department is concerned at the declining enrolments in this school and is currently examining its future viability. Among the factors being considered are the school's current and projected enrolments. A decision on the school's future will be taken as soon as possible and the board of management will be notified of the outcome.
