Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

457 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science when educational psychologists will be appointed to primary schools in Maynooth, Celbridge, Straffan, Ardlough, Rathmore, Sallins, Kilcock, Rathcoffey, Kill and Donadea, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1764/03]

The position in regard to the assignment of educational psychologists to primary schools in Maynooth, Celbridge, Straffan, Ardclough, Rathmore, Sallins, Kilcock, Rathcoffey, Kill and Donadea, County Kildare, was outlined in written replies on 17 April last, on 9 October last and on 5 December last. My Department continues to make a number of new appointments of psychologists to the National Educational Psychological Service, including some who will be based in the eastern region, south western area. I am not in a position at present to state whether it will be possible to expand the NEPS service in County Kildare during the current year – the timing will depend upon when the new psychologists actually take up their posts and complete their induction training. In the meantime, the schools referred to may avail of the scheme for commissioning psychological assessments, details of which may be found on my Department's website.
