Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

458 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction stage 3 of the required extension to Meánscoil Iognáid Rís secondary school, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1765/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. The building project for the proposed extension to Meánscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare is currently at an early stage of architectural planning and will not be authorised to progress beyond its current stage. The timing of when this project can progress to tender and construction is dependent on the funding allocation in 2004 and subsequent years.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

459 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received representations in relation to a new school building programme (details supplied); if he accepts the concerns that pupils, parents and teachers have expressed in relation to the commencement of the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1778/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. The project at the school referred to by the Deputy is at an advanced stage of architectural planning. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it is not possible to include it in the new projects to start construction in 2003. The project will be considered again in the context of the 2004 capital programme.
