Question:

472 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the registration fee charged to students to sit for the junior certificate and the leaving certificate; and if he will compare these fees to the corresponding figures for each of the past ten years. [1901/03]

The entry fee for the 2003 leaving certificate examination is €76, and the junior certificate fee is €72. The corresponding fees for each of the past ten years are detailed in the following table:

Paul McGrath

Question:

473 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if exam fees for the junior and leaving certificates are waived for students whose parents are the holders of current medical cards; and his plans to extend this exemption to mock exams associated with those State examinations. [1902/03]

The position regarding the alleviation of entry fees for the State examinations is that students who are covered by the means-tested general medical services card scheme, either directly or as the dependants of medical card holders, are not liable to pay fees.

Mock examinations are not part of the State examinations system, and therefore my Department has no function in respect of the fees that are charged for these examinations.
