Question:

488 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the request for the extra facilities required at Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; when the project is likely to proceed to stage 4; if adequate funding for the project has been provided to enable construction to start in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1918/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 482 and 488 together.

The building project for the proposed extension at Maynooth post-primary school is currently at stage 3 of architectural planning. However as I recently announced in my 2003 school building programme, this is one such project which is at an early stage of architectural planning, pre-tender stage, and will not be authorised to progress beyond this current stage.

The timing of when this project can progress to tender and construction is dependent on the funding allocation in 2004 and subsequent years.

Question:

485 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in regard to the extra facilities required at St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare; if the necessary funding is available to facilitate the advancement of the required works and developmental plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1915/03]

An extension project has recently been completed at St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare, which will cater for an enrolment of 800 pupils. The school authorities have submitted an application for further additional accommodation.

This project is not yet in architectural planning and my Department does not intend to put further large-scale projects into architectural planning during 2003. The timing as to when this project may proceed is dependent on the funding allocation in 2004 and subsequent years.
