Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Television Licence Fee.

Tony Gregory

Question:

544 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the position of persons whose television licences were due for renewal in December 2002 in the context of the increase announced by the Minister for 1 January 2003. [1103/03]

Paul McGrath

Question:

551 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his recent order approving a television licence increase from ?107 to ?150 applies to licences which expired prior to 1 January 2003; and the reason this increase is being backdated. [1478/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 544 and 551 together.

The price of a television licence is fixed by regulation and is determined by the date on which the licence is paid for and not the date that the licence falls due for renewal. The television licence regulations provide that the price of a television licence was €107 up to 31 December 2002 and €150 from 1 January 2003.
