Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

John Bruton

Question:

580 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the capital projects financed by his Department in each constituency, which commenced or were completed in 2002; the amount of money in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1513/03]

Under the national lottery funded sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, funding is allocated to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country. In 2002 payments amounting to €43,229,329 were made by my Department to projects grant-aided under the programme. These payments are made on foot of required documentation and invoices or certificates of payment received, which must be for work beginning after the date of grant allocation. I have arranged for the full listing of these payments in 2002, broken down by county, to be forwarded to the Deputy immediately. The information sought by the Deputy regarding the commencement and completion dates of these projects is not readily available.

Also in 2002, a total of €18,093,767 was issued to the GAA out of a total grant of €19.05 million towards the development of Croke Park. This amount was issued in two payments of €9,525,000 in March 2002 and €8,568,767 in April 2002.

In addition to funding for sports-related projects, €50,000 was provided in 2002 to the Foynes Flying Boat Museum, Foynes, County Limerick, towards the conversion of a storage area for display purposes.

There were no arts and culture capital projects approved during 2002. However, a number of projects under the arts and culture capital enhancement support scheme, ACCESS 2001 – 2004, and other capital projects were approved during 2001, and some may have commenced during 2002.
