Question:

601 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of persons on an annual basis who die as a result of sudden cardiac arrest; the age and gender profile of such persons; the extent of fatalities by county; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27176/02]

Data on mortality are compiled by the Central Statistics Office and published in the annual and quarterly reports on vital statistics. Table 1 below sets out the total number of deaths due to acute myocardial infarction for the years 1997 to 2001. Table 2 provides a detailed breakdown of these deaths by age group, gender and county for 2001.
