Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Jerry Cowley

Question:

698 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he intends to purchase essential x-ray scanning equipment for Mayo General Hospital; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many essential x-rays cannot be performed due to out of date equipment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1625/03]

Michael Ring

Question:

732 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if funding has been provided to upgrade or replace the x-ray equipment at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo; if so, if it will be provided by the Department; and when the funding will be given to the Western Health Board so that this x-ray unit can be upgraded. [2004/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 698 and 732 together.

The provision of medical services including the replacement of radiology equipment at Mayo General Hospital is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. I am advised that the board is purchasing the necessary equipment for the screening room at Mayo General Hospital as a matter of priority.
