Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Phil Hogan

Question:

765 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Transport if the processing of an application for a driving test for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow can be expedited in view of the urgent need for this licence for employment purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1216/03]

Due to the unprecedented volume of applications for the driving test received in my Department in recent weeks, some applications have not yet been processed. To date we have no record of an application for the person named.

Phil Hogan

Question:

766 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Transport if the processing of an application for a driving test for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow can be expedited in view of the urgent need for this licence for employment purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1217/03]

A driving test will be arranged as soon as possible for the person concerned.

Paul McGrath

Question:

767 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Transport if he will consider waiving the charge for motor vehicle driving tests for persons over 70 years of age who have inadvertently allowed their full licence to expire. [1228/03]

I have no proposals to waive the fee for a driving test in the case of an applicant aged 70 years or over.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

768 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Transport if there is a provision to provide new driving test centres, and in particular in Drogheda; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1278/03]

The present network of driving test centres comprises 51 test centres nationwide. This is generally considered to provide good coverage across the country and represents a reasonable balance between convenience to test applicants and the need for economy in delivering the driver testing service. I have no proposals to provide a test centre in Drogheda as the existing test centres in Dundalk, Navan and Finglas provide adequately for the demand in Drogheda and the general area.
