Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

773 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Transport if he will seek assurances from the Railway Procurement Agency that they will continue to give special attention to the Luas project in Tallaght, particularly ensuring that any inconvenience to the local community, especially in Kingswood Heights, Kilnamanagh and Belgard Heights, is kept to a minimum; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1488/03]

I am informed by the Railway Procurement Agency that it makes every effort to keep inconvenience to a minimum in the areas affected during the construction phase of the project. Local businesses, residents and other interested parties are advised about development proposals through direct contact, notices in the newspapers and local liaison committees that have been established in all relevant areas. Construction of the Tallaght line is well advanced and I understand that passenger services will commence in the first half of 2004.
