Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Denis Naughten

Question:

775 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport his plans for the development of the east Cork rail link to Midleton; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1497/03]

David Stanton

Question:

796 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Transport if he has received the feasibility study concerning the re-opening of the east Cork rail link and the development of rail services in the Cork area; if and when he will publish same; the projected costing outlined in the various phases of the development; if the overall study is favourable towards the re-opening of the east Cork rail link; and the action he has taken or intends to take on the issue [2095/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 775 and 796 together.

The feasibility study on proposals for the development of new rail services in the Cork area, including the re-opening of the Cork-Midleton line, was commissioned by Iarnród Éireann. The study has recently been completed and submitted to the company for consideration. A copy was also forwarded to my Department. I expect to receive the company's views of the study in the near future which I will then consider. I understand the company plans to make the report available to the public, including costings.
