Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Victims Commission.

Tony Gregory

Question:

798 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the trust fund arising from the report of the Victims Commission published in August 1999 will be set up; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1842/03]

In April 2002 the Government approved in principle the establishment of a fund to address the needs of the victims of the conflict in Northern Ireland and their families in this jurisdiction and, in this regard, the establishment of a working group to draw up detailed proposals for the operation of such a fund. My predecessor subsequently appointed a working group to examine and make proposals for the establishment, operation and endowment of the fund. The working group has now completed its deliberations and its recommendations are currently under consideration with a view to my bringing proposals to Government in the near future.
