Question:

881 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total number of disabled persons grants paid by local authorities in 2000, 2001 and 2002; the total cost in respect of each year; his plans to amend the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1056/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 880 and 881 together.

The information available to my Department on activity under the disabled persons and essential repair grant schemes by local authorities is published in my Department's Quarterly and Annual Housing Statistics Bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The quarterly and annual bulletins for the period ended 31 December 2002 are at present being compiled and will be published in March 2003.

While there are no proposals to change the schemes at this time, my Department will continue to keep the terms and conditions of the schemes under review.
