Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

John Perry

Question:

926 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason the necessary approval has not been given to Sligo County Council to proceed with social housing in Collooney, Coolaney and Bunninadden, County Sligo in view of the fact that the documentation was submitted in November 2002; the negotiations which have taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1600/03]

Sligo County Council submitted proposals to my Department in November 2002 seeking approval to accept tenders for two housing schemes in Coolaney and Bunninadden. Proposals were also received from it in November for approval to proceed to tender for a housing scheme in Collooney. The proposals are currently under examination in my Department and a decision will be conveyed to the council as soon as possible.

It will be necessary for these sites to be inspected by my Department's inspector as there was no planning stage consultation with the Department or budget cost approval obtained prior to tenders being sought by the council.
