Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

1002 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the position in regard to the application for unemployment assistance for a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1859/03]

The person concerned claimed unemployment benefit on 17 September 2002. Following a full examination of his case the claim was disallowed on the grounds that the person concerned was not genuinely seeking work. Notification of the decision and his right to appeal issued on 24 October 2002.

The person concerned appealed the deciding officer's decision to the independent social welfare appeals office. The appeals officer upheld the original decision and the person concerned was notified of the result on 10 January 2003. Supplementary welfare allowance was paid to the person concerned from 17 September 2002 to 29 January 2003.

Question No. 1003 answered with Question No. 968.
