Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Television Licence Fee.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

165 Ms Lynch asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the progress which has been made with regard to the consideration of possible amendments to the television licence fee regulations, with a view to the more efficient collection of licence fees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1814/03]

Along with increasing the television licence fee, the regulations which I signed late last year – S.I. No. 603 of 2002 – brought into effect a number of measures to improve the efficiency of the television licence fee collection process. These measures included: the introduction of the option of payment by monthly direct debit; extending the period in which a licence falls to be renewed from six months to 12 months; providing that a licence can be renewed at any time up to a month before an existing licence has expired; and abolishing the monochrome licence.

Question No. 166 answered with Question No. 134.
