Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - E-government Policy.

David Stanton

Question:

167 Mr. Stanton asked the Taoiseach if a cost-benefit analysis for e-government has been undertaken or is planned; if so, the details of same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1085/03]

It is universally accepted that information and communications technologies have a major contribution to make in developing better and more citizen and business oriented services, in promoting efficiences and in facilitating more effective collaboration and administration across the public service. This increased efficiency and effectiveness and consequent improved value for money which results, together with the desire to further improve services delivery to our customers, are the main drivers for e-government in the Government information society action plan, New Connections. It is a matter for individual Departments or agencies to assess the feasibility or benefits of particular projects.
