213 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the action he proposes to take to ensure that the proposed EU directive on broiler welfare will be discussed early in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2360/03]
The first meeting of the Commission working group on broiler welfare legislation took place in Brussels on 28 and 29 January 2003. My Department was represented at the meeting. As is standard practice on all such matters, my Department will participate, as appropriate, in discussions at EU level on this matter.
