221 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reasons a person (details supplied) in County Clare, who applied for the farm retirement scheme in 2001, did not receive back payments from February 2002 on the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2589/03]

The application by the person named for the early retirement pension was in fact received in my Department on 3 December 2002 and is currently being processed. In accordance with the scheme provisions this is the earliest date from which any payment to which the person named may be entitled can be made.
